Thanks for this page. I encountered the “hunk failed” error on a patch that I generated from a subversion repository, and searching for solutions to the problem led me here. My particular problem was solved by making sure that newline endings were native on the file system: the source code was stored in a zip file with Windows newline endings, and I was trying to patch them on a Linux machine. Using the “-a” flag to unzip solved the problem for me. Perhaps this comment can help someone else.
